Dropping nap the fast way?
« on: August 31, 2008, 02:04:37 am »
Good Grief!  I'll repeat that because it makes me feel better~!

GOOD GRIEF!

My dd seems to be dropping the old nap.  She's been great at self regulating,  but the last wk has just been horrible.  I KNOW she isn't ot..... we put her in for "rest" time (and that's what i call it---because soon i don't care that she doesn't sleep, but will still demand pm quiet time).  She is literally falling asleep 10/15 minutes before her actual cut off of 3pm.  I've left her for as much as 45mins. and for as little as 15mins....

I've done normal bed--she sleeps a whole bunch of hours.  Early to bed and she just yacks and yacks.  Happy as a clam and definitely not sleepy.

No amount of nap is helping her get to sleep any faster..... the weird thing is (and it makes me know that it is something developmental/out of my hands), is that she just stays in her bed chatting and chatting.  It seems that if she truly hasn't been tired in the past, she won't stay in the bed and really wants to come out.

I guess i just thought she might drop it a little slower.  And i assume there will still be days where she does sleep.

whoa.

ps~ my kids have a strange habit of just dropping sleep.  my little x jumped from 2hr A time to 3hr in one day!  I know her nap isn't gone, but yikes---i didn't think it would happen like this!

Most days,

8 wake
1-3 nap.....this is 'quiet' time....i can't say how much she sleeps or even how often!  it's total flip flopping!
8 bed
*some days we chuck her in bed early, truly scared of her getting ot and giving her the chance to sleep.  HA!

My dd seems to want to drop the ole nap too.  Not sure if she is really ready for it or not. Today we put her in the crib at 2:00.  She played until 3:30 then went to sleep till 4:15, but she is still awake talking to herself at 10:00.  I am starting to wonder if I should even offer a nap?  I too would like to demand a quiet time, honestly just for some mommy time in the afternoon.

Good luck in the transition.

How is her mood if she doesn't sleep?
How long does she sleep overnight if she doesn't nap?

Right now her mood isn't that bad.....
but about 1.5hrs before she actually falls asleep (as in, i get worried cuz her mood changes and i whip her into bed),  she starts to lose it.  like, not listening etc.....
other than that, she'll sleep 12.5/13hr at night  (on a no nap day).

It is just so weird that it is so sudden......

Some just do it like that i would offer the nap and if she doesn't sleep she can just have quiet time she may go back to napping again.

yep today was another zero nap day.

she did a rest time and read books for an hour....she doesn't have toys in her room and was happy to be alone for a bit.

she came on out and boy, we could barely tell she hadn't slept.

we kept waiting for the axe to fall, but she never spazzed or anything.

and tonight was the first time she went straight to sleep---we put her there at 7pm (got up at 8am).

i guess what i will do is, if she seems to have slept a 10hr night, i might offer quiet time/sleep time sooner.  wake her after something reasonable.
if she sleeps 11.5/12hrs plus...i will just give a mandatory quiet time and see what happens.

in any case, i am sooooo not ready to have her not going away for a bit.  lol

today was day 5 of no nap.

i am NOT ready to believe she isn't napping ever again!

i just can't believe she's still in good spirits and not driving me crazy!  lol!

she's definitely getting good room time for at least 6 more months!  after all, she's only 2.5yrs on sept14.

Sami

Zara has mostly stopped napping (and wont' do quiet time, won't take her dummy etc).  Started off watching a DVD instead, but won't even do that most days now.  Every day I ask her if she wants her dummy, wants to watch a movie.  She usually responds no.  Today she said yes to a movie and dummy, and is napping.  She is probably napping about 1 day per fortnight?

If she is happy in there, and isn't any trouble when awake, just roll with it.  In Aus, the average ages for girls to drop their nap is about 3.5 I believe, and if I remember rightly, Avery has always had long A times....
