Made mistakes with #1, wanna do better with #2!
« on: September 04, 2008, 06:22:15 am »
Hi guys,

DS#2 is 7 months, has been on solids for almost 2 months now.  I know it is still early days, but I stayed on purees too long with #1 (was still having pureed vege and no meat at 12/13 months  :-[) and he is a terrible eater - really picky etc.  I don't want to make those mistakes with #2.

So far we have done - pumpkin, potato, sweet potato, carrot, zuchinni, brocolli, cauliflower, peas, pears, apples, bananas, a chicken casserole pureed and a beef casserole pureed.

When / how do we more on to more texture and more different foods like rice / pasta etc.??

I would offer finger foods alongside the purees and you can add in pasta/rice whenever you want as they are both ok from 6 months.  Pasta is a good finger food too. I didnt do a lumpy puree stage as ds went from purees along with finger foods to just having finger foods (p.s. anything can be finger food including mashed potato and rice!!)

totally agree with pp, i did the same. check out the threads for finger foods for 6-9 months old.  my ds started on cucumber sticks, cheerios, toast fingers, banana chunks and soft, steamed or roasted veggies.

you can also look at the threads for BLW (baby led weaning) and see there.

also, for the record, i think that many parents do purees for a long time, and i think that many lo's are picky eaters no matter how their early approach was. i know someone who always cooked lovely foods for her lo, he is now 4 and prefers pasta with butter to anything else, she has such trouble getting him eat.  i don't think you have yourself to blame for the first time around! but enjoy the second  :)
