what age for a comforter on bed?

my ds is 23 months and he is getting a twin car bed for his 2nd b-day.  I bought all the matching sheets and comforter set ( cars or course!), normally i cover him with a blanket nightly and in a few hours it's off him once he turns.  Do you think he will be ready for a big comforter on his bed at 2? or just lay it on top of the sheets for extra softness for a while until he's ready... what age are most ready to use a comforter on their bed???

My dd is 2.5 and still sleeps in the crib with a light blanket.  She NEVER keeps it on!!!

I've always wondered what a comforter is? I imagine some cosy blanket that your american granny would have made for you! I bet I'm wrong aren't I?

DD slept with a comforter since she moved into a daybed at 18 mos.  She never had a problem with it.

A comforter is like a thick quilted blanket with batting in between the sheets.  Very cozy.

I have just put a duvet or quilt I think they are called over here onto DD's bed, she loves snuggling up in it!
She was in a sleep sack up until about 16 mths, and that was getting a little chilly, even with a blanket over!
I even made the duvet cover myself, very proud!

O's had a down comforter (crib sized for his crib and now a quilt on his full) since he was about 10m old.  He never moved much in there :)

Comforter is American for duvet.  More or less.

all the same IMO,lol.... thanks everyone.  I htin i will try it when he's in his new bed next month and see how it goes. if he gets frustrated with it, i'll just lay it on top like i have been doing with his crib one in his crib until a later date.

Someone posted that Grobag now do a first duvert and sheets etc, it is a fitted sheet and you zip the duvet onto the sheet so the duvet desn't fall off,great idea but smeone else mentioned their LO moves alot in bed as does Leorah but for a calmer sleeper they look great  :)

Yea that's why I 'same same but different' LOL

A duvet is usually just white with stuffing (feathers, down, cotton, etc) and you buy a cover for it that will match your bed set. A comforter has the same purpose but is almost always cotton (or hollow fiber) filled, and instead of whit and needing a cover, the outside is already its own cover - so yes think a child's Disney comforter, or Cars, etc.
