Am I in for a bad night???
« on: October 02, 2008, 15:52:05 pm »
Argh! My LO has just started nursery 2 days a week (she 7.5months) and have been working very hard on BWing from 6 weeks and I have a very content baby who naps extremely well and SSTN. However, today was the longest I've left her (8-4) and when I picked her up I found that she'd missed her AM nap and only had 40mins as a result at lunchtime!!!! Usually she is a 1-1.5hr AM and 2hr lunchtime girl so am thinking that I am in for a BAD night!!!!!

Am now worried all this sleep training hard work is going to go down the pan at nursery! She is an extremely alert (nosy!) baby and they decided to take her out in the buggy for her AM nap - bad idea - she never sleeps for long, if at all, in a buggy - you have to keep moving fast and moving all the time to get it to work!!!! So, she didn't sleep in the morning and as a result refused her AM bottle and then the 45min monster got her (never have any issues with this normally so can only assume she was way OT).

Put her to bed at 4.20pm this afternoon in a last ditch attempt to rack up some zzzzzz's before bedtime!

Any suggestions on how to get the nurseries to work with BWing and naps????!!!!!????

Having said that it is only 2 days a week but will be for more days shortly and don't want all my hard work to be wasted and my little angel to turn into a sleep deprived monster!!!!!

What a nightmare!

x

Huge hugs hun.

Unfortunately nursery does end up throwing a spanner in the works.  My DD started nursery when she was 16 weeks old - 5 days a week from 9:00 - 3:30.

She was on the perfect 2 hour EASY, and we had no problems.  When she started nursery her routine did go to pot, and we found that she would have to have a longer nap in the afternoon for her to catch up, which was hard for me as that meant I did not get to see her  :'(

BUT

It is not all bad news  :-* She did adjust, and started sleeping better in nursery.  It took her some time, but once she got used to things, she did start eating and sleeping better.

What I found useful, was to buy a note booke and write her routine out on a daily basis.  I would put the time she woke up, the time she was due for her next feed, nap etc.  I then asked them to write the daily occurances in the book below my routine, so that I could see how her day panned out.  This really helped as I was able to tell nursery where things were going wrong as I had it in black and white in front of me.

It did mean that we were going by the clock for a bit, but after a while nursery got to know her tired cues really well and would know exactly when to put her down, and she was taking her regular two hour naps.

Don't get me wrong, 7 months down the line, we do still have the odd bad day, but now, most of these are attributed to either teething being sick, or a bad night etc.

Hope this helps  :-*
