How do we get past the 1 hour 15 min naps?
« on: October 04, 2008, 18:53:22 pm »
My horrible little napper, now 21 months, has been taking 1 hour 15 min naps pretty consistently this week.  Any ideas on how to lengthen it, or will it just take (more) time?

Here's a typical day:

6:30am-7am Wake
12pm-12:30pm Nap
6:15pm-6:45pm Bedtime

NWs are brief, but it does usually take her a long time to get to sleep at night.

Is that the normal length or were they once longer?  I hate to say it but you may be stuck with it.  My lo is 17 mths and has always napped from about 70-90 min.  The 90 min ones are rare.  She did this on two naps and now on one nap too.  She never doubled the nap when she switched either so it just stinks.  She has always been a bad napper.

I know they're typically OT, but my lo used to nap only 35-40 mins, so this is an improvement  :P

Ugh, stuck with it?  I'm sure she'll never be a 2+ hour napper, but I was hoping for at least 90 mins.

It is so hard when everyone else seems to have a 2 hr napper!  I keep trying and trying and it never gets any better.  I have tried later and earlier, no luck.  My lo was also a 30 min napper before about 7 mths when things improved some.  I actually do get a 2 hr nap maybe twice a month, it sure doesn't seem fair sometimes.  Let me know if you find anything that works!

As you know, I have a 1 hour 15 minute napper too. Not so much lately, but he certainly does it more often than not. He does throw in a few days of 2 hour naps just to make me hopeful but then goes straight back. I really think with our LOs we just need to accept that giving the same A time day to day just will never result in consistently long naps. Not what you want to hear is it? You are not alone!

mine also is normally a 1hr 15 min napper especially during the week at daycare.  if at home i get usually 1hr 30 min sometimes 2hrs but that is also rare.  I just don't know how to improve it at daycare???  if he actually sleeps till 7am then it seems to take him for ever to fall asleep at daycare!!! some times not till 1:30-1:45 and then only gets 45 min as wake up is 2:30!  if he wakes his normal 6:00-6:30 then it's 1 hr 15 min max and i tell ya he doesn't function great on that!!! lots of temper tantrums, etc.......

Hi ladies that is exactly where I am right now too!  DD used to be a wonderful 2-3 hour sleeper since we moved to 1 nap at 16 mo.  She's now 25 mo and we switched to a day care facility after our move and OT monster showed up.  She doesnt' nap there at all, 30 min max, and she is a heaping mess when she gets home, barely makes it through dinner, my sweet little girl is not fun to be around.

On weekends she used to make up for it by sleeping longer but I think that it has all caught up with us now.  Now her naps are 1 hr 15 min MAXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!  Like you guys say, they are just so cranky in teh afternoon.

I've had her at home with me all week trying to do earlier naptime, and earlier bedtime to help her catch up on sleep, some days have been better than others and now DST is around the corner, UGH!

For me at least 1 hr 15 min is when she's OT, when she's well rested she sleeps 11.5 hours at night and 2-3 during the day and is a DREAM child!  I'm hoping to get back to that soon!

GL!
