A general question about babies learning to sleep night vs day
« on: October 04, 2008, 18:59:15 pm »
I keep reading in many posts that babies learn to sleep at night form 0-3 months and how to sleep in the day from 3-6 months.  But, I'm curious where this comes from, ie/ where I can read more about this.  I said it to DH once and he asked what made me think that, I mentioned that I read it on here. So, of course he asked what made all of the BWs think this....just cause he's that type of person.... ::)

But then I got curious, too, and after hours and hours of googling and researching anything and everything about baby sleep habits and development and the like, I can't find anything anywhere at all that says this, except posts in the forum.

I'm not saying I don't believe it, but I am actually interested in finding out more about it. Anyone point me in the right direction? Even a page in one of Tracey's books where she says it and I will be happy to read what she has to say about it.

Thanks!

I remember I had day sleeping issues at the 4th month, and I did a lot of research.  I remember reading online articles about babies learning day sleep between 3 and 6 months, but I don't have the sites handy.  Will try to look it up again.

Hey Mashimaro-
I have a reference for you-
Pages 28-29 in Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems by Richard Ferber, MD. He has an excellent chapter on sleep in general- "What we know about sleep".
I do not condone what people think of as CIO or Ferberizing, but this book was excellent help for me when Nick was going through severe Night Terrors, sleep walking at 8-11 mos...

Ohhh thanks Cathie.  I may buy the book. I'm dead-against Ferberizing as well but anything I can learn about sleep that may get DS to actually DO SOME OF IT (or me to understand why he's not...) would be nice. :)

It's really useful- some of the tips definitely make sense, plus the different phases of sleep are described in great detail- I'm one that always likes to know how things work and why.
Be sure to get the newest edition as it is updated- 2006
