how to handle the upcoming time change?
« on: October 06, 2008, 23:36:47 pm »
any suggestion that have worked for others in the past.....  In the past for me it took 3-5 days for my ds to adjust but it didn't matter to me b/c i was at home so i could work it all out.  NOw i am back to work and am wondering how to handle this extra hour we will be getting.  He normally waskes at 6am so he will start to wake at 5!  how can i gradually work it out before it hits!

Please, some advice for us too! I was thinking about it just yesterday and I have no idea what to do.
DD is 15 months old and we've had a wonderful stretch of 8pm - 7am sleep in the last month... I love it!!!
Marking my spot too.

see i am un able to push nap etc around as he's in daycare, so all his times are set.  I know i will have the saturday to play with things but in the past it always took him 3-5 days to adjust.  Last fall we had 5 am wakings for at least 5 days in not 7.  So that is my worry as that monday back at daycare adn not adjusted he will be up at 5am and then not napping for 7.5hrs A time!!!!!

I don't do anything! If they wake up early, I just get up early too. Then put them to bed at their regular clock time. I've never had a problem really. Sometimes the naps are off a bit but it all works out.

There is a thread dealing specifically with this but I don't know how to put a link in for you.  What I think we are going to try to do is start adjusting by 15 minutes as best as we can every 2 - 3 days from now.

For anyone who is at home with their LO you can push there day on 10mins a day and claw back the extra hour in just over a week.  Key is to move every thing up by 10mins so all naps and feeds get moved by that 10mins.  By moving feeds with nap and bedtimes you reset their internal clock on by 10mins as all these things are markers to their internal clock about what time of day it is. Result first A time will be 10mins longer but rest of day A times wil stay same length.  As bedtime slowly moves up so wake up will slowly move up too.  I used it to get over early wakings when DD was waking at 5am during 2-1t, no reason it wouldn't work to adjust for time changes too.

totally agree with Stacy.  You can try to fix it before it happens but IMO its just as easy to accept a few rough days and ride it out with a few early nights, OK they'll be late nights to them but they will catch up.

I only ever used that technique to sort out 2-1t ew's, I just roll with it for time changes and its never cause too much hassle.

ya  i hear ya it's just he's having such a hard time adjusting already to lack of nap at daycare and he's in bed super early as it is now he will be super OT for at least a week when the time change happens, it's so much for him to deal with......
