That is a personal decision.  We still allow dessert, however we KNOW that our kids aren't holding out for the dessert - but the theory on still allowing it, is that it isn't a reward for eating their dinner iykwim - because then they could think that healthy dinner is so yukky that you get a reward for eating it iykwim.

I do this too, sometimes Leorah just isn't hungry enough for a meal but as dessert is just fruit I let her eat it as at least she has something in her and I know she isn't just holding out for it because when she is hungry she will eat her dinner. Nik I know where you are coming from with the cajoling and helping, DH does this and I tell him if she wants it she will eat it herself, (she wasn't even fed as a baby as we did BLW) I want her to retain her natural instinct to just eat when hungry.

What jelly does Lily have? I was thinking of giving L some jelly with fruit in as a change but am not sure what kinds there are (I hate jelly!)

I give Lily Muller Little Stars Jelly's, they do the fromage frais and jelly.  Lily loves jelly and I like the fact that the pectin in jelly they have discovered helps keep cancer at bay, so all good really :-)

Lily doesn't like the jelly with fruit in, delmonte do some I think.

I really need to work on letting her eat only when hungry as I eat cos its meal time and I over eat frequently, I definitly don't have a healthy relationship with food, I don't want that for Lily but it comes hard breaking a life time of bad eating habits.
