Dummy dependant
« on: October 30, 2008, 09:19:56 am »
I have a 17 week old DD who, i fear. is dummy dependant.  She has fairly good routine in the day - 4hr EASY - and genrally takes 7oz.  We dream feed her at 11.  Then from 2-6 she is really unsettled and only goes back off when we put dummy back in.  It can take 2-3 times of putting dummy back in each time for it to work, and obviously this is exhausting!!
I had similar problems with my now 3 yr old DS, and i did pu/pd at 5 months, which took so much hard work and patience, but it did work!
I previously tried CC with DD but it didn't work so am now gearing myself up to use pu/pd but i am really nervous it woin't work, and that i won't have the patience.  I am also worried about how it will affect her day naps as i also have to put dummy back in during these too!  My main concern is that i won't have the time in the day as i have DS to consider, and can't stay in 24/7

I suppose i am looking for some support and encouragement and would love to hear of others who have succeeded in this area.  It would be really appreciated

Thanks
Karyn

Hi Kathryn,

Yes you are right-if your LO needs replugging to go back to sleep the dummy has become a prop.  You will have to get rid of it and that is necessary to teach her independent sleep.  Pu/pd can be used to get rid of it.  I know it is very hard work and a lot of dedication but in the long run it is worth it.  You can also pop over to the props board and have a look around there
