Quick question - need a QUICK answer plxs
« on: October 31, 2008, 15:46:58 pm »
I gave Julian his first meal yesterday and he ate it fine and kept it all down and carried on as ususal. Today I gave him the exact same meal, the only difference was pear instead of apple afterwards. He didn't eat all the pear (but almost) and he immediately got hiccups and after about 3 mins, the whole lot came back up :P
So I think OK, he got hiccups and his stomach is not used to keeping down solids, fine. So I gave him a bath, got him dressed and prepared a bottle for him. He drank about 120ml, did a good burp and then I kept him sitting up in my lap, (the bouncer was still wet from previous spew) and after about 20mins, the whole lot came back again :P :o ::)
So what do I do now? He had 3 feeds of bm this morning and was fine. I'm thinking give him the boob now (it is almost 2.5hrs since he vomited). But then I know I won't have enough for this evening? I don't like giving formula before bed seeing as his tummy is obviously not settled.
Thanks for any opinions :-*

Thanks Stacy.

I gave him the boob ;) and all was well. He then has a little bottle and boob before bed and had no probs.
The thing is he is a little bit snotty - maybe that doesn't help with digestion.
Anyway today I gave him a diddy bit of lunch again and a jar of fruit and he kept it down no problem :)

Is there a reason you've started solids so early Sinead?

Good to see you btw!  :-*

Well here in Italy they usually start at 5mths and seeing as my milk is not sufficient it was either more formula or one meal a day until 6 mths - I chose the latter :D

Just love those knickers Ang ;D

Maybe he ate too much, and thats why couldnt keep it down! I started solids when ds was 6 months and only gave him about 1/2 tablespoon at a time.

As you become more clear about who you really are, you'll be better able to decide what is best for you - the first time around

Ok.....fair enough! Have you visited Kellymom? Great resorce with regards to solids/bf I'm not saying dont do it, just have a read....even if you choose not to follow it, its good to know! The first link is really good and I think it would be the most beneficial for you to read. Second is concerning growth.

I have just seen your other thread on the bf board....I think probably the vomitting is to do with what you gave him perhaps? His little digestive system is still so immature, perhpas its best to stick with fruit for now if you really want to start solids.

I hope this is helpful? I don't want to to seem like i'm trying to put you off, just want to make sure my purple knicker finder is fully informed!!  :P
