Sleep bags- over heating v. too cold?
« on: November 10, 2008, 22:50:35 pm »
Hi,

I just bought my 16 month old a 2.5 tog sleep bag. The nights are cold now, and I dont want to keep on the heating all night (like a used to do). My LO usually has a warm bottle before bed and of course his body temp goes up. So I put the sleep bag loosely on him (unzipped) till I am ready to go to bed, then I zip him up. I also turn off the heating in his room. Under the sleep bag he wears a cotton sleep suit.

I just checked on him- he's been sleeping for 2 hours- and his room is ice cold. I felt his body and it feels warm, I felt his upper back and his sleep suit is slightly damp, so he must have been sweating.

I'm thinking perhaps I need to put him to bed without the sleep bag and put it on him while he's sleeping? But I worry about him getting too cold and I don't want to disrupt his sleep too much, by walking in and out and putting on the sleep bag when he's already sleeping...

Any suggestions? What do other ppl do?

We do the same as Stacy -- we use lighter weight PJs under the sleep sack.  And we totally skip the footy jammies -- those keep WAY too much heat in when their feet are covered all night.  Also, at naps we do top only, no bottoms, since the house is nice and toasty.

I wouldn't disturb sleep by trying to put on a sleep sack while sleeping.  Just adjust jammies.
