13 wk old, 50 minute naps too short?
« on: November 19, 2008, 17:01:29 pm »
My 13 wk old only takes 50 minute naps during the day.  Should I be trying W2S?  Do I go in and stir her at 20 minutes or 5-10 minutes before she usually wakes up?  Thanks!

I would say if she is happy when she wakes up, that maybe 50 minutes is all she needs.  It's probably throwing off the three hour schedule because she's isn't able to stay awake for 2 hours, but maybe she needs a 2.5 hour schedule for now.  If she's crabby when she wakes, maybe try pat/shh to get her back to sleep for a bit longer.   I'm not sure about W2S- I haven't tried that before.  Good luck!

Can you post your EASY routine and we can start by taking a look there?  It's possible she's ready for some more A time, or it could be habitual and you could try w2s.  When she wakes, is she happy?  Let's start with your routine first and see...

I am wondering if I need to do a better wind down too.  I tried it for one of her naps today and she didn't nap longer, but went to sleep easier.

Thanks in advance for any help!  The past few days she has been avoiding her last afternoon nap as well.

Her  A times look about average for a bub her age, so I doubt she needs an increase in  A time.  In terms of refusing that last nap of the day - that was a chronic problem with my dd - and we often resorted to APing to get some sleep out of her before bedtime....

It's possible a better wind down would indeed help her.  what are you doing?  Is she swaddled?  It looks like she may be jolting herself awake at the transition between sleep cycles.  In that case, w2s can definitely help.  Here's a couple links that explain things:

after you read through those, if you've got some specific questions to your situation, post those and we'll go from there :)
