bottle weaning for 8 month old
« on: December 09, 2008, 21:47:36 pm »
I have a 8 month 2 week old son.

After reading thru several topics, I believe I have done accidental parenting.

I introduced sippy cup to my 8 month old when he was little older than 4 month. But I offered water. He drinks from that sippy cup after his solid meals.

I want to try to remove bottles, hopefully by his 1st birthday.

How do I go about doing it? Specially since I have already introduced water in sippy cup. About 2 weeks back when he was not enjoying drinking from bottle, I did offer him milk in sippy cup, he took a sip and then threw the sippy cup. I have not tried after that.

This is his current schedule
7:30/8 am: Bottle Feed 6 oz
8:30 am:bath
9 am: 4 tbsp cereal + 1 stage 3 jar fruit, some water from sippy cup
10:30 am: 1.5 hr to 2 hr nap
1:00 pm: Bottle feed 6 oz
2:00 pm: lunch, some home made veggies + fruit,  some water from sippy cup
3:30 pm: 2nd nap of the day, 1.5 hr to 2 hrs
5:30/6:00 pm: Bottle feed 6 oz
7:30 pm: Dinner, 1/2 stage 3 veggies + 1/2 stage 3 fruit,  some water from sippy cup
9:00 pm: last bottle
9:30 pm: goto bed

Have you seen this post on transitioning to a sippy cup?

Hi Paula:

I did start reading it, but could not understand how to apply in my case. But I will admit I didnt read a lot there. I will try to read that.

Thanks,
Pooja

with my daughter, we just kept offering milk in a sippy at every meal. When she would take a sip or two (after what seemed like ages!) we started changing one bottle at a time. She was at milk in sippies by one year. I don't know if it will work for you, or for us again! lol! but I thought I would share. xx

agree with Sharron, just keep on offering it at every meal, until your lo starts to take some and then work on changing one bottle at a time.
