I know doing away with the catnap is the ideal at this age, but we regularly have to do a catnap as my LO doesn't take long naps. He takes 30 mins -1 hr in the morning and 30 mins - 1hr 20 mins in the afternoon. His daytime naps are around 2hrs daily, sometimes less. On the days when he takes a short morning nap or a short pm nap or both, we definitely have to do a catnap to stop him getting OT before bed (if we do a too early bed, we get EW). So what I'm trying to say is that sometimes, particularly on shorter nap days, a catnap is probably a good idea to prevent OT. IMO, there is no point in not doing a catnap and ending up with a very OT baby, just for the sake of "catnap should be dropped" at this age! If you have a baby that doesn't take long naps, there is not much alternative IMO until they can handle longer A times.
That's just what I've found from personal experience.
Napping 2hrs per day is a good day for me
Some babies just don't need as much sleep. I've battled with it for months and have finally come to realise that he's just not going to nap anywhere the same amount as other babies!
