Daughter is pulling/tugging at breast
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:44:39 am »
Hello,
my daughter is 11 wks old and is just starting to tug/pull at my breast while she is nursing, what could this mean? She isn't pulling off or crying either.

Thanks

Do you have enough milk? is she feeding well, gaining weight? It could be that your let down is not fast enough and gets fussy until milk comes. At 11 weeks a baby is more active and probably your DD finds it amusing to play with your breast. .

As you become more clear about who you really are, you'll be better able to decide what is best for you - the first time around

I think many babies do this, I wouldn't say it's a sign there's a problem, more that she is exploring and discovering the world around her, albeit your breasts lol! I remember J doing it for a long time  :D

She seems to be eating well and gaining weight. Maybe she is just playing around, she would stay on all night just suckling if I let her!! She has had a lot of gas lately, I'm trying to cut out dairy. She passes it easily but I can hear her belly rumbling. Does anyone know about how long what you eat takes
to get to your milk supply?

It varies greatly, from as little as 1 hr to as much at 24! 6 hours is average I think.

If you have too much foremilk the excess lactose can make her gassy....do you get particularly engorged?

How do u know if u have too much foremilk? No I'm not usually engorged. I'm pretty full if she sleeps long at night, but that hasn't
happened in awhile.
