Need insight into 12mth schedule
« on: January 02, 2009, 12:47:55 pm »
My dd is starting daycare on Tuesday and I am in need of some help with her schedule

4-6 wakes for a bottle (need to stop this, but don't know how as she is clearly hungry)
goes back to sleep till 8

8 breakfast
11 lunch
noon - nap
230 up from nap
230- snack
430 dinner
6 bath
630 bed and bottle

Here is the problem. I go back to work next week and dd will be in daycare and I have to leave the house at 745 and will probably have to get her up at 645 in order to get her ready and out of the house so she will not be able to go back to bed till 8 like she has been
This will be so hard on the days that she gets up at 6 and then falls back to sleep by 630 till 8. I just don't know how she will make it through the day. I have tried many times to give her 2 naps and she will have nothing of it.

I'm going to move this to toddler sleep as your LO is over a year.

most LO's work really well on a 12 hour day and 12 hour night.  I think you may find some success with that.

Like Melissa said, I'd try having her asleep by 6:45 pm.  Do you think she'd take 2 naps if she had only 12 hrs at night?  Also, maybe the reason she won't take 2 naps is b/c the first one is too long.  Many have to start waking theirs from the AM nap in order to get a PM nap.  At around 11 months, DD started refusing the PM nap, so I shortened the first one to 40 min.

It seems like your LO needs much more sleep than mine, but here is what my 12 month old is doing right now.  Not sure how much it will help, as they are all different, but I thought you might like to know.

Wake 6:30
Sleep 9:50-10:20 (I wake her so she will take an afternoon nap - on 1 nap, she'd get overtired.  In just the past few days I shortened it to 30 min, in order to get her to fall asleep on time in the afternoon.)
Sleep 1:05-2:45
Asleep for the night 7:30

DD's awake times are probably much longer than yours would be too.

Let me know if you need more help.  I can find more info for you if you need it.

Thanks, Maybe I should start waking her up at 645 in the morning and then getting her to bed by 645 at night.

We have always had issues with naps, not about the length of them, but about her taking them. Even as an infant she never ever took that catnap at 5 . Definitely there have been times where she is clearly tired and I out her down at 930 am, but I do let her sleep for awhile therefore refusing her afternoon nap.
Usually when I try and put her down for a morning nap she refusing screaming at the top of her lunch sometimes for half an hour that is why I stopped it. This has only been going on for about the last week or so.

She does not seem OT at all during the day so I didn't think that her being on 1 nap so early was really a big issue. I know that in daycare they are going to be pushing her to that 1 nap very shortly so I am not sure if I should try and introduce the AM nap again even if it is just for a 30 min nap for them to take it away in a a couple of week.

What do you think?

A couple of thoughts...

Did she refuse the AM nap when she got 13 hrs of sleep the night before or was it a night of 12 hrs?  Have you tried an AM nap after 3.5 ish hours of waking?  Just wondered if the nap was too soon after waking.

I was thinking she can handle the 1 nap w/o getting OT b/c she gets so much sleep at night.

Can she take a mega-long nap at daycare or is it limited?  Just want her to still get the same total amount of sleep she is getting now, as obviously she needs it.

The other option is putting her to bed super early, so she still gets the same amount of sleep at night that she is getting now.

Anything sound good to you?
