I have a 14 month old that is still not sleeping through the night. He needs to be held until he falls asleep for naps and bedtime. He often wakes early from naps. After he is put down for the night he awakens several times and needs to be held again until he goes back to sleep. He has slept through the night before, but has never been consistent. Everyone I know only suggests the cry it out method, which I do not want to do. I want to teach him to sleep independently and to be able to self soothe so when he wakes up to early from a nap or throughout the night, he does not need me or my husband to go in and get him back to sleep. I want to be able to do the night time / nap routine and then lay him in his crib and have him be able to fall asleep. I don't know how to go about it. Please help. We have another baby on the way and need to get his sleep in order before the new baby comes.
