Bit confused - please help
« on: January 13, 2009, 19:56:54 pm »
Just a few Q's.....

If my baby of 8 weeks goe down for his S, but wakes before his next E (but has still had a good nap of 45mins say), should I just keep him entertained until the next E?
Dreamfeed isn't going well - he just can't take much at all. How much would I expect him to take whilst in teh sleep state? 1/2 full feed? Full feed?
Are the cluster feeds split feeds? i.e if I did 5pm and 7pm, would I split a full 150ml feed or would I give him a full 150ml feed at each?

Many thanks

I also breastfeed and don't know amounts but I noticed that when I first started the dreamfeed around 9 weeks, she didn't take much at first, but then she started getting used to it and became a more eager eater and started having what are likely full feeds.

Hi, in regard to cluster feed I offered my dd a full bottle at each feed and let her take as much as she wanted. She took full bottles on the first feed and the ammount she took at bed time varied from 30mls to full bottle. Df took a while to establish and ammount she takes still varies significantly, I would suggest to just stick with it for a while and be consistent.
Waking up every 10 mins could indicate that ur lo is not able to transition to the next stage of sleep. Does his body jolt just before he wakes up crying? Swaddling could help if this is the case as it will stop the lo from waking himself up with jolting. I know there is also a technique of applying pressure on los body at this stage to help them pass onto the next stage but I'm not familiar with it - have a look around the posts u'll find some info on it.
best of luck

hiya, welcome to bw :-*

could you post your EASY? like this:

E
A (how long - remember this is every waking minute so includes feeding and wind down)
S (how long)

regarding the df. it took a while for my LO to accept it. DH just kept offering it at the same time each night and after a week he started to take it, went from taking a few mouthfuls to a few ozs in 2 weeks. also sometimes he would be in a deep sleep and wouldnt take any, so we just put him back down and tried 15/20mins later so he was in a lighter sleep phase of his sleep cycle, then he would take more. here's a link with some info (you need to scroll down a little to find what is relevant on starting df)
