2-1 nap switch, 10 month old
« on: January 13, 2009, 22:22:27 pm »
Hello everyone!   ;D  It has been awhile since I have posted.  I am having the same problem......my LO is 10 months old and is really fighting his second nap.  Here is how our day goes (with the occasional bump here and there):

7:30 - Wake
8:00 - 7oz bottle
9:00 - oatmeal cereal mixed with fruit and cereal bar
10:30 - sleep
12:00  - wake and 5oz. bottle
1:30 - solids lunch
3:15 -  try and out him down for a nap.....will lay and play, sometimes fuss for 45 minutes to an hour.  Finally fell asleep today at about
           4:10.
4:45 - wake and 5oz. bottle
6:30 - solids dinner
7:30 - bath
8:00 - windown and bed with a 5oz. bottle.  He sleeps with a fan on.

There are very little to no NWings.....if he does wake up, he usually can go back to sleep on his own with no problems.  My problem is I don't want him to sleep past 5pm because it's already messing up his bedtime.  He is consistently fighing the pm nap.  Should I wait to put him down until 4 and just let him sleep for 45 minutes?  Do you think I should try and start transitioning him to 1 nap now?  I really think that is the way we are heading right now.....moving to one nap.  I am afraid he is not getting enough sleep throughout the day as it is.  It doesn't seem to be messing up his night sleep, though sometimes I don't know that he is actually up in the middle of the night.

Thanks for your help!!   :P

Jen,
It does sound like he is ready to start transitioning...  I thought I'd give you a link to my thread b/c there is some great info...  I think it might answer your questions as to what to do.

Hope it's helpful.  Feel free to post on my thread too.

Hi Jen. I think he's ready for more A time (and on his way to one nap, but he may not get there for awhile yet), so you can handle this by putting him down at 3:45 for a 45 minute nap.  That should be enough to get him through to bed time.  Eventually, you'll start pushing the morning A time further and cutting that pm nap shorter, but if he's not EWing or NWing for now, I'd keep him at two naps for now.

HTH!  :)

Thanks for the suggestions!  I will put him down at regular time for his morning nap, then put him down later for his afternoon nap and wake him after 45 minutes.  I know he is ready for more A time, I just was at a loss for how to make it all fit into the day with him still getting enough sleep!!   ???   He still does very well at night, so can't complain!  Thanks again!
