Catfish?
« on: January 22, 2009, 12:50:12 pm »
Seems my DD (3.5) might have a catfish intolerance. A few times now I've bought these AWESOME fish fingers from Fairway market here. The ingredients are VERY basic and the only thing she could really react to I guess is the fish (basa fillet or catfish). She LOVES when we eat them but the past two times - last night and about two weeks ago - she wakes up screaming/crying a few times in middle of the night, holding her stomach sometimes and last night said her belly hurt. This was about 4 hours after dinner.

Are we safe in assuming its likely an intolerance to the fish? If so, anything similar that she might react to that we should look out for? She seems ok when I make salmon dishes, has eaten and been ok with tilapia and has fish sticks sometimes at school too.

TIA!

From what I've read about it some people are just allergic to the catfish, while some are allergic to catfish and shell fish, and some to all fish.  Shell fish is usually higher up on the list for being allergic to, so if she hasn't had any shell fish yet perhaps you'd want to stay away from it until you get to talk to the doctor.

Hey there Karen.  Poor baby.  I agree with Melanie.

Good to know though she is fine with other fish, espcially salmon.

I hope she is okay now.
