I think that it depends on the individual baby.  How old is your lo?  When they start consistently refusing the 11 am bottle is typically when you would drop it.  Check out this thread!

Thanks for your reply. My LO has is only 7 months and is starting to refuse the 11am feed. Ive tried offering it later but she still refuses. 3 bottles just doesnt seem like much.

How much is your lo taking in the other bottles?  My DD JUST dropped to 3 bottles and she JUST turned 6 months, It's early, I know but she is eating LOTS of solids.

She takes 8 oz in the other 3 bottles, so 24 oz.  Enough according to the pediatrician.

She will take 7-8oz in other bottles so she is taking about 24oz but the 11am feed she just doesnt want to know. She is eating breakfast of maybe apple and pear or cereal then maybe cauliflower cheese for lunch. She doesnt have any snacks or a tea so far. Please could you post me your typical day to help me. Many thanks.

Hi, this is what we've been doing for the past few days.

I will only including eating

7AM-8oz bottle
8AM-rice or oatmeal cereal with applesauce or pear
11:30AM "lunch" cereal with vegetable (carrot or sweet potato)
1:30PM-8oz bottle
4:30pm-"dinner" cereal with vegetable and some fruit for "dessert"
6:30pm-bedtime bottle 8oz

We mix formula with her cereal so she is probably getting closer to 28 oz of formula a day.

hth!

All lo's are different, however, you want to try and keep as much milk in your lo's diet as possible.

If your lo is refusing the 11am bottle, I would ensure that you up the other bottles by an oz, to try and increase the intake.

All lo's are different on when they drop their bottles.  My DS was 6 months when he dropped the 11am bottle, but my DD was closer to 8 months when she dropped it.

You can give it a try and see how you get on.  Remember though, that milk is still their main source of nutritian, and they need to get majority of their calories from their milk at this age.

Yes, like Paula said you want to be sure milk stays their primary source of nutrition.  If your lo DOES drop the 11am bottle, increase the remaining bottles and add formula/milk to her cereal etc.

Good luck!

Sure, this is my "ideal" schedule give or take a sickness or early waking.

7AM-Bottle 8oz
8AM-Solids breakfast
9:30AM-Nap
11:30-lunch solids  (lunch time ranges from 11:30-12:30 depending on preschool pick up for older brother etc.
1-1:30PM-Bottle 8oz
1:30-nap
4:30-dinner solids
6:30pm-bedtime bottle 8oz

The middle of the day bottle fluctuates.  She got tired for her second nap early, so I did not give her that bottle till she woke up which was around 3:15pm-3:30ish.

Some days we have a 4:30PM catnap which pushes dinner to 5.

Hope this all makes sense.  Again, this is just what we've been doing for the past few days.

Hi guys just wondering if I can pop in here too!!
My DS now ten months, has started refusing his 6pm bottle, his eating part of the day looks like this

8am - weetabix made with formula, then he takes the remaining formulas when he is finished his cereal, usually about 50z
12pm - fruit or banana plus 5 oz bottle
4pm - dinner, eg veg with meat, casserole, plus 5 oz bottle
6pm - fruit, or banana or yoghurt, rusk and 5 oz bottle,

He doesnt seem interested in this 6pm bottle lately so am wondering than rather than fight him with it should I just increase the other 3 bottles during the day? He is a very happy chap and sleeps 12 hours a night so he is deff' getting enough food!!

Just wondering what you guys think xx

xx ;)

Hi Motmom,

Is his 6pm bottle usually the last bottle of the day?  Does he take one right before bed along with the 20oz he takes in the other bottles?

Oh my goodness I think I just had a light bulb moment..... Eva has been getting more and more tricky to get her milk into her, maybe i need to drop a bottle and increase the others? ? ?
Also,  Judy good to see someone else is as flexible as me about eat/drinkl vs nap :), I always figure sleep is soooooooo important as it can turn the rest of your day into a train wreck if it's neglected....
This is interesting I 'll tag along if that's ok

Ya this 6pm bottle is the last botttle of the day we stopped giving a night time bottle as he was getting sick a lot, it tied in with teething and a cough he had but it was really disturbing puting him down and since we moved it to 6pm it was fine, until now!!! He gets 7oz at 8am that includes what goes in the cereal, and 10oz witht hte other 2 bottles is 17 oz a day enough for 10 month old or should I increase the other two 5 oz bottles??

Motmom, 17 oz is not too bad as long as you  are giving lots of other dairy.  However, it can not hurt to increase the other bottles if he will take it!!!
