Quick & Easy Pasta Sauce for 7m old?
« on: February 08, 2009, 15:34:03 pm »
Hey,
Was just wondering if anyone knows of an easy and quick to prepare pasta sauce that would be suitable for a 7 onth old? I found a few in cook books and the net, but they all seem so time consuming and complicated :( Does anybody know if I can just mix the cooked pasta into a pure? And what pure could I use?
R should I start with just plain cooked pasta shapes without any sauce?

Any ideas, recepies r highly appreciated!
Thank u!

What I do is cook the tiny pasta shapes in veg broth/soup (which I make up in batches) I put about 200ml of soup with about 30gr pasta and let it cook and absorb the liquid until it looks like pasta with a sauce. I usually add either a pureed meat/ham or a ricotta style cheese and then I then add a good spoon of ex-virgin olive oil and a spoon of parmesan. Not at all time consuming if you pre-prepare the veg soup.

HTH :)

I add pasta into some of my purees.

I also make a pasta sauce that is easy enough to prepare and you can make a batch and freeze the rest.

Tomato, sweet potato and cheese sauce:

oil
1 onion  (chopped)
1 garlic clove
2 sweet potato (about 250g)
2 medium carrot
tin chopped tomatoes (400g)
200ml boiling veg stock or water
grated cheddar cheese (60g)

Pasta shells (about 25g per portion of sauce)

1.  Heat oil
2.  Saute onion until soft, then add crushed garlic and saute for 1 minute or so
3. Add chopped sweet potato and carrot
4.  Add tinned chopped tomato and veg stock
5.  Bring to boil while stirring then cover and simmer for about 30 minutes (under veg is soft and tender)

6.  Cool slightly then blend sauce to a puree and add cheese and stir until melted

7.  Cook pasta and add to sauce

Is suitable for freezing.

I also make this without the sweet potato and add another carrot.

One of Annabel Karmel's sounds LOVELY to me, but as my DS is allergic to milk, we can't add the cheese:

3 ounces courgette (zucchini), peeled and diced
1 oz butter
3 medium tomates, skinned, deseeded and chopped
1 oz cheddar cheese

Cook pasta.  Saute the courgette in the butter for about 5 minutes. Add the tomates and cook over low heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, stir in the cheese until melted.  Puree in a blender and stir in the pasta.

Super easy!  She does have quite a few other pasta sauce recipes, but they do all call for some sort of cheese, so I am still working on adapting them to add some extra flavour and the texture it might need to make them sutiable for MPI.
