4 month old cries every night...
« on: February 10, 2009, 19:13:00 pm »
Wasn't sure where to post this but it happens in the evening when she is getting sleepy. Anyway my 4 month old  has suffered from painful gas for over 2
months now. It's seems to be getting less painful, however she still has about a 30 minute period in the evening where she cries/screams for at least 30 min. We don't think she's in pain, because it basically only happens at night and always when she is getting tired. I try to put her down b4 the meltdown but it doesn't usually work because then she just starts fussing when I lay her down and she just can't seem to get settled.
Is there anything else I could do to help avoid these meltdowns or at least make them shorter? I feel so bad especially because she is adding even more
air bubbles into her belly with all the crying. Any idea when this will stop?
Thanks,
Tracey

Hi Tracey,

My ds suffered quite a bit like that as well. It's not fun for anyone. I don't know quite when it will stop, but 4 months is probably around the average. With my ds it got better at 18-20 weeks.
Is there anything you can do to soothe her through the crying? Have you tried bicycling her legs? I also used to have some success doing shush-pat, but instead of patting his back i would pat the top of his diaper. Someone told me it helps babies focus the gas a little, and that seemed to be true for us.
If you want to post your EASY routine, we can have a look and see if anything needs tweaking.
