bad eating habits
« on: February 21, 2009, 20:54:51 pm »
Hi

My baby is 4.5 months old.
Between the ages of 1.5 to 2.5 months he alreay slept through the night. After that he started waking up again. He usually goes to sleep around 7 pm and wakes up around 2, 4 and 6. I give him a bottle and he falls right back to sleep. I think he doesn't get enough to eat during the day either, although he's gaining weight normally. He eats around 3.4 ounces exery 2.5 to 3 hours.I know I should make him eat more every four hours, but it didn't work with him. I tried for several days and he's just "bursting from hunger" after 3 hours. It's also umportant to metion he spits up very large amounts even long after the meal was over.I tried cereals and it didn't help. I'm not even sure how to tell if he's really in need of the night feeding or is it a habit I need to break. Any help will be appreciated, I'm really frustrated....

Have you tried the easy digest formula? That may help keep the milk down...otheriwse you could also try hubgry baby formula to see if that helps stretch out the feeds although I would want to make sure he took more during a feed so filling him up with HB formula may not be the answer.

Sorry if this post was useless!

Hello and Welcome to BW!!

Have you had your lo checked for reflux?

Also, your lo could be going through a growth spurt which could cause the sudden night wakings.

Could you post your current routine in terms of

Eating
Awake
Sleeping

Let us know how much your lo is eating, how long naps are etc.

Also, I would not introduce cereals unless the Dr. Recommends it.  Starting cereal too early can cause allergies..

Hi everyone, thanks for helping me...
The doctor says if he's gaining weight normally it probably isn't a reflux...and he's been gaining weight even above average. The doctor said I could try cereals but I haven't noticed any progress. I think a growth spurt only lasts a few days and this has been going on for months...I would really love it if you guys could help me put him on an easy routine, however the concept is a little hard for me to understand since he basically isn't willing to eat the same amount every meal, or sleep at the same time, so many times when he wakes up it isn't time to be fed yet and easy basically says to be fed when he wakes up...
This is what his day is usually like:

630am wakes up and eats, usually eats little
7am plays, usually isn't willing to play in the same spot or do the same thing for over 10-15 min
830am sleep
915 wakes
930eats around 4 ounce
plays
11 sleep
1130 wakes, cranky, I have to wait with him at least an hour till he can be fed again and so on.
Around 6 is bath, last meal and around 7 goes to sleep. During the day putting him down is about 20 mins work, its hard for him to fall asleep...I have to rock him or sing, constently put the paci back in his mouth and so on.

Sounds like your lo might be OT which could cause him to not want to eat!

I'm going to find some links on starting with Easy that might help you out!  Be back shortly!
