5-year old regularly vomiting... intolerance?
« on: February 22, 2009, 14:58:26 pm »
Hi all, I`m at my wits` end with Sasha...

From time to time she`ll wake me up in the night saying her tummy hurts or she feels sick or both, and will sometimes be actually sick.
(Now because she was allowed in my bed if she was poorly I was aware that she may just be saying her tummy hurt to sleep in my bed so when she actually wasn`t sick i played it down not to make a big thing out of it KWIM?)

The first time it happened it was the time when the winter bug was going around and her vomiting didn`t surprise me at all, esp. as her younger sister had had V&D.

But when a few weeks later the same happened and she threw up it made me think but still not to the point of seeking advice because she had started school and it`s sort of to be expected cos kids keep passing bugs round, or we`d assume she`d jumped too much after her meal etc.

It`s always the evening meal that seems to be the "offender", last night she ate at about 6.30 and was sick at 1.30am,  other times she`d wake early in the morning and feel/actually be sick.

She also passes quite a bit of wind for a little girl lately.

Last night  she was sick, then drank some water, was sick again and again and again, just water was coming up in the end.
Her cheeks were red and hot as well. Then she stopped vomiting and fell asleep peacefully until morning, and has been her normal chirpy self,as if last night hadn`t happened.

She never had any reactions to any foods before, has no allergies, always ate anything and everything  ???

Sod`s law as well, today being Sunday i have to wait til tomorrow to take her to the doctors`!
But I`m starting to worry  :-\ as it seems like it happened quite a few times :'(

And she sort of expects it to happen and will say "i better not eat that in case it makes me sick" (but we`ve never linked any foods with her being sick) "mummy, put a bowl by my bed in case I`m sick in the night" and vomiting is certainly not something i would like to be a part of her life,it seriously scares me...

Please help

That sounds horrible - poor Sasha. I'm sure you've thought of it but have you tried eliminating gluten? Perhaps she's coeliac? Wheat is hidden in so many things that it might not be obvious that she's eaten it.

Maybe a trip to the doctors for an allergy test?

It's Sunday where I am, but I'm assuming Monday for you?  Were you able to take her to the doctor at all?  Poor girl!  It is possible that it is something she's eating, and I'm sure at 4 she's eating a variety of food.

Is she only sick on certain nights or is it occurring every night?  Perhaps start a food journal and write down what she had that day and then on the days she is sick you may be able to link a food.  I would think the doctor would be helpful in this situation.

**HUGS**  That must be hard on your whole family.

Going to doctor`s Thursday.

She`s not sick every night. I`m currently thinking pasta may be a problem, or italian cheese (the sprinkly stuff that smells like parmesan) cos on the few occasions she was sick this was what she`d had.
I`ll definitely make note of everything from now on and will have a thorough talk with the doctor on Thurs and update.

Yes, let us know how the appt goes.  And I would suggest bringing the food diary to your Doctor's appt as they may like to see it as well.

Went to the doctor`s today, not much use really.
Were advised to keep food diary and return if it got worse...
We had noodles for dinner today so will see how tonight goes  :-\
Thank you for your concern xxx

Did you already have a good food diary before you went?  Were you able to see anything that popped out at you?

No, didn`t have a food diary, the idea of intolerance didn`t occur to me until the last time she was sick...I always thought of bugs/her jumping around after a meal etc. Will start writing down what she eats though.
And if we have to return, will ask to see a different doctor next time, I didn`t think much to the one we saw today.
 Thank you x

I understand, I hope next time, if there is a next time, you do get a doctor you prefer.  Definitely keep that food diary to see if you see a link.  Hope she's feeling better. :)
