Toddler - light sleeper and night waker
« on: February 25, 2009, 00:34:43 am »
Hi, If anyone  can help me I would be truly grateful!!

History - baby has reflux and is a touchy temperment type in Tracey's book.  We still managaed a reasonable routine and had her sleeping thorugh night quite early (prior to three months).  Is a good sleeper when put in her cot - has never slept out in the car or pram even on long trips.
She is now just two and is starting to wake through the night again.  She has done this periodically throughout from around 9months - she is very sensiitve to her environment - if too hot, too cold - to light etc.

In general we leave her (depends on cry and length of cry) and try to work out why she is waking and elimante thses.
She will no matter what - if left still wake once or twice through the night but will go back to sleep.  The problem is this is occurring on a regular basis and I am getting exhausted.  We have another baby due in around 2 weeks and I am getting concernced about this.
Also, she is such a light sleeper - I don't know how she will cope wiht the noise/cryign of newborn.

Any ideas?? How can I get her used to noise/ sleeping thoruhg the night without crying.  She can put herself back to sleep but she crys.
Also, I think she is getting caught at the end of her cot and is waking because she can't get back into the main part of the cot.

Thanks Raewyn

Hi Raewyn, welcome to BW!

Since your LO is over 1, I'm going to move this over to Sleeping For Toddlers for you. In the meantime, it would be helpful if you could post what a normal days routine looks like. A little bit of tweaking may straighten these NW out.

Whitenoise is an excellent way to drown out noise. My DD sleeps with a dishwasher CD playing in the background at every nap and all night. She is also a light sleeper, so I definitely understand.

I second the white noise recommendation - that will help drown out other sounds and can also be a very soothing way for her to learn to go to sleep.

Can you post what a typical day looks like?  If it's an uncomfortable-ness in the cot, have you thought about transitioning to a bgb?  Does she have a lovie?
