7 month old sleeping great after 3am
« on: March 12, 2009, 13:44:36 pm »
Could anyone tell me why my ds sleeps great from 4 am to 9:30am but wakes every 1-2 hours from bedtime, 8pm, to 4am?  He has always done this.  I recently moved him out of our bed to a sidecar and he is sleeping maybe one stretch of 3 hrs.  I work at home and get up between 3-4am, and it just drives me crazy because I could be getting the best sleep of the night when I have to work!  Is it just me keeping him up? Is it time to move him totally out of our room?  :'( :'(
Thanks a bunch
Lisa

Hi Lisa, welcome to BW!

A lot of times waking in the early part of the night indicates OT. How is he napping during the day? Could you post what a typical day looks like for him and we can go from there. :)

His routine for the day looks great! Most 7 month olds are on 2 naps and 3 hours of day sleep is pretty much the average. You could try increasing that second A time a bit and see if he takes a longer nap. Normally 1hr naps mean the LO could have handled more A time.

It looks like the NW are due to nursing becoming a prop for him. Since you're nursing every time he wakes, when he enters his light sleep, instead of transitioning back to deep sleep, he wakes fully and calls for a nursing session. Do you think you're ready to try getting him back to sleep without nursing? Also, do you have anyone (DH?) to support you through the night? The first few nights may be pretty rough, but once he's used to resettling without feeding most if not all of those wakings should disappear.
