Help with DD's feeding routine she is 6.5 months
« on: March 14, 2009, 23:17:03 pm »
Can someone have a look at my current routine to let me know if it is OK?
7am wake up and milk
9am milk
11.30am solids (vegetable puree)
13.00 milk
15.00 (solids fruit)
17.00 milk
19.00 milk

When she is having milk she is generally having around 5oz, should I give her cereal on waking so she only has 4 bottles per day?

Any adivce would be apprecited! Thanksxx

As far as I have read on BW we are advised to not take out any bottles or breastfeedings quite yet. My son is 7.5 months old and nurses 4 times during the day, a DF and one other feeding at night. He eats about two meals of solids a day.  If she is used to a certain amount of milk I wouldnt cut back yet.  I do have a question though, is she hungry for the 9am feeding?  We usually wake up at around 7:30 and nurse and then eat solids about an hour after that, then nurse at 11 or when he wakes up from his nap, again at 3ish solids around 4:45 (before I start making our dinner) and then again at 6:30 before bed. Is she having any trouble with solids? If this routine is working for you, stick with it. The key is to remember milk is their food until 1 year old, the rest is just for fun.  Hope this helps!

I agree with PP that if your schedule seems to be working for you and your LO, and you are following baby's cues, there is no need to make changes.
If you feel some changes are necessary, I might suggest: a) taking out 9am milk and possibly b) upping the ounces in her bottles, maybe 6-7oz?

Once babies are on a 4 hour EASY, most are getting milk/formula 4 x's in the day, and possibly a DF or night feed.  At 6 months, my DD's routine looked like this:
7am wake and BF
8am cereal
11am BF
12pm veggies or fruit
3pm BF
5pm cereal, veggies, meat
7pm BF and bed, with no DF or night feed
