BLW and meat
« on: March 23, 2009, 00:39:11 am »
I just have a question about feeding los meat. What do you do?

Im only just starting on the finger food process but everytime i give lo a bit of meat he keeps it up on the roof of his mouth and sucks away on it. When i figure out he hasn't chewed or swallowed it i try and fish it out and he gets so upset! But i dont want to risk putting him down to crawl around and choking on it. Ive tried giving him roasts, casserole meat and even flaky fish. He still keeps it up in his mouth - probably for hours if i let him!

Just wondering what other people do, and any recipes/ideas i could try. Ive had a look at the baby food recipe ideas on this site but its all pretty much the same as what im doing now.

Any suggestions welcome :)

Ground meat worked best for us in the early stages.  DS' favorite then an now was ground beef in spaghetti sauce over macaroni.  You can try ground pork, turkey and chicken as well :)

Chicken was the first meat for both of mine.  What I did was cook the chicken really tender so that I can mush it between my fingers then offer a little bit at a time (pea-size).  It will take some time for him to get used to the new texture and taste but at least he is willing to try it.  Keep trying and eventually he will swallow the meats.

Leo does this a bit too, sucks and chews on the meat for quite a while. I gather he is enjoying the taste, but meats, even mini meatballs, seem to take a long time for him to eat.

I started Leo on what I call toasted sandwiches. I simmered a steak in water, pureed it and added some other things like pureed sweet potato and cheese.

Then I added to a sandwich and flattened them a lot while toasting in the frypan (flattening them really well helps stop all the meat falling out when he eats them). I cut them up into small squares. He eats them frozen, chews them down like a teething rusk!

Roast chicken from the supermarket goes well.
