Not always no. He went thru a stage of sttn every other night but then things got worse (multiple nws) so I decided to wean the middle of the night feed. It seems to have worked. She says touching wood! This was only 2/3 weeks ago so I thought we'd have the df for a while yet. Tbh I think this may be a fluke. But when we go to feed him at normal df time he just gets weed off with us and wants to go back to sleep.

I'm not sure the random wake up times always mean hunger for Archie. I can usually resettle without feeding so it confuses me.

Well last night we decided not to df. He lasted till 3:30am (which is still a huge stretch from last feed at 6:30) he had pooed which may have woke him but he wouldn't settle without a feed. He drained his bottle and was hungry for his feed at 7am so he was genuinely hungry.

So, I guess my question is do I stick to the df or let him wake for it hoping that he doesn't?! Lol!

When does he wake if you DO give him a Dream Feed?  We eventually stopped Dream Feeding because Madi would wake anyways and then eventually she stopped waking for that over night feed.  I did not see the point in staying up to give the Dream Feed if she was going to wake in a few hours anyways.  She would get her bedtime bottle then NO Dream Feed, then wake maybe somewhere between 1-3AM for a full feed and then go till morning.  I can not remember when we did this though!!

It is really up to you.  But if he is going to wake with our without the dream feed, I would go to bed instead and skip the dream feed!  Just my opinion.  I love my sleep! :)

HTH!

Ooo I love my sleep too!

Over the last couple of weeks he'll sleep thru (or at least resettle himself or with a little reassurance) generally if we df. I think I'm gonna stick with offering the df. But if he refuses it again I might just not wait up for it as you say.

I don't know why I just get the feeling if he has to wake up for it he'll be off the night feed sooner?! There's no logic to this just my 'gut' feeling. Maybe he'll go longer and longer without it until it's 7am?

Tbh I think he's doing really well to only want one 'visit' in the night even if it is to feed him. But I'd like to drop this feed before I go back to work in a couple of months.

Judy, did you actively wean the night feed or did you los just go longer and longer without on their own? Thanks for your help!

Yes, you are very lucky!!!  He is doing so well.

First we dropped the dream feed since it did not seem to work for us.  And she would wake once or twice between midnight to 7AM.  I can not remember at what age but eventually we started giving her her paci first BEFORE feeding her overnight.  If she DID NOT settle with the paci we knew she was hungry.  Then we would feed her.  Eventually it got to the point where just plugging her paci, she would go back to sleep.  Once she could find her paci herself (we put multiple in her crib) she stopped waking all together!  :)

This is only good if you use a paci!!  I know some people are opposed to it!

Yeah we used a paci with great success until he got dependent on it. I used the dummy to stop lo snacking in the daytime. We weaned him off it a few weeks ago.

I think I'm gonna try offering the df for a bit. Thank again for your advice Judy it's great to be able to bouce ideas off people!
