Breast milk is very sweet tasting (apparently, I've never been brave enough
) as I've been told by our health unit. That's why the new recommendation in Canada for weaning is not to worry about starting with vegetables instead of fruits, as the infant's first food (BM) has been sweet anyways. That being said, I'm sure that adding sugar to formula is some outdated recommendation, and I would discontinue it as soon as possible to prevent tooth decay. I worry that perhaps the reflux is playing more on how much the LO eats per feed as opposed to it being due to the sugar. My DD2 was on meds for reflux and she always took smaller more frequent feeds to be more comfortable.
