Problem - 12 week old sleeping through!!
« on: April 02, 2009, 19:40:39 pm »
I know it is strange problem that most would like to have butr it worries me that she isn't eating enough.

I know she is young for the 4 hour easy but it really suits her. Her routine is

Wakes between 6 and 7am
E - 7.30 - 5 to 7oz
A
S - 8.00 till 11.00

E - 11.30 - 6 to 7oz
A
S - 12.00 till 3.00

E - 3.30 - 6 to 7oz
A
S - 5.00 catnap for 30 - 45 mins

E - 6.30 4 - 5oz
A
S - 6.45 - 7pm

Then thats it for the night.

She gains about 4 to 5oz a week and sits just below the 50th centile. Should I just trust her and let her take what she wants???

Last week I introduced a dreamfeed just to try and get more calories in and she took it fine but then woke at 4am for more!! My husband said that I was being silly and the dreamfeed was obviously disturbing her so to go back to letting her sleep through but I have to say as nice as the extra sleep was I did prefere it when she ate more  ???

What does anyone think?

1 - Let her sleep through
2 - Dreamfeed to get more calories in knowing that then she will NW

Thank you!!!!

If she is sleeping through, then I would not try and change a thing.  Your lo knows how much formula she needs in a day and is taking what she needs.  If she does wake in the night, by all means feed her, but if she is sleeping through I would not do anything different.

It is not too young for her to be sleeping through, Some lo's are just able to sleep through the night at an earlier age.  Sleeping through the night is a developmental milestone and some lo's do it a lot earlier than others.  My DD was sleeping through at around 5 weeks doing about 8-9 hours and then shortly after that was doing 12 hours a night.  We never did the DF either.

Sounds like your lo is doing fantastically ;D

In my opinion, you've got nothing to worry about, that's fantastic that she's sleeping through.  I've got a LO the same age today and he's still up at 3:00 and downs 5 oz.  Also, he generally takes and average of 4 1/2 to 5 oz per feed during the day (7 feeds total), so your little one is taking more than my babe (who is right at the 50 percentile for growth) so she's definitely getting what she needs!!  Lucky you! By the way, what an awesome EASY you've got your little one on, how'd you manage that? I think we're going to try to make the transition to the 3.5 hour EASY this week as naps are getting erratic and feeds are getting bigger and more spaced apart.
