waking way too early!!
« on: May 08, 2009, 19:15:11 pm »
So Ella was 1 on Monday and for the past 2 weeks she decided to start waking about 5:45!  For the past 3 months she was going to bed at about 6:45 and up at 6:30ish, which is o.k. by me.  She had an ear infection but was going to sleep and sleeping at night o.k. just waking earlier.  She also has had diarrea from last Sun to yesterday and a terrible diaper rash, and her shots on Wed (poor little thing) For the most part she is still happy as can be all day, just up so early!!  I try not to get her out of bed until 6:45 to give her milk and breakfast about 7:30.  She usually will play happily in her crib until I come get her. She is still taking 2 naps/day and to bed about 6:45-7.  Maybe this is too early?  Or maybe she needs to go to one nap??  I've been putting her down for am nap about 9:30 and waking her at 10:15 and pm nap at 1:30 and usually she'll sleep about 1 1/4 -1 1/2 hours.  I can't make pm nap later until school is out as I have to pick her oldest sister up at 3.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi- well, how are things going this weekend? Still early waking? Sounds like you've got a happy LO- nice that she'll play in the crib till you get her!
You could try moving her bedtime back 30 mins and see if it extends her AM wake time. SOunds like she's getting plenty of daytime sleep. And, yes, 2-1 nap switch is around the corner and may be contributing, but it does seem early.
Also, just recovering from illness can throw sleep off..
Hugs and keep us posted!

Hi there,

Just another couple of thoughts...When my son was 13 months I noticed the same thing happening.  It turns out he was early on making the 2-1 nap switch.  It took about 2 weeks for him to make the switch, but he's slept very predictably since then.

Also, could it be a reaction to daylight savings time in addition to the other things?

I agree with speechie, sounds like your lo is a real sweetheart; the simple tweaking will probably help with the EW's. And speechies advice has saved me in the past! : )

I agree she sounds like a little angel so my thoughts would be that after all that illness she could be a little OT but as she is an angel she doesn't have the other trauma that some LOs get like NWs and short naps, maybe err on the cautious side before restricting her sleep a bit as she has been through a lot recently.

Thanks for the replys!  Yes, Ella really is a happy little girl ;D.  I'm really thinking the illness has something to do with it, and maybe she will be ready to switch soon, my older 2 took 2 naps until about 18 months, but they're all different right?!  This weekend was busy, but went pretty well.  Friday night Ella went to bed around 7:30 and up at 6 on Sat  I had to work so grandma watched her and they were gone in the am so her nap was at noon and she went right to sleep and slept until 2:45!  To bed about 7:15-7:30 (not sure, she was still with grandma) and up at 6 on Sun.  Did give her 45 min nap at 9 am as we had to be at church at 10 and had Mother's day after so then napped easily from 2:15-4pm.  DH put her to bed around 7 (I was at work and probably would've waited a little later) and heard her around 5:40 but didn't wake until 6:15.  She has a fever again but diarrhe is gone so maybe from teething or ear infection, not sure!  I think for now I am going to try the 9:30 nap for 45 min and nap around 1:30 pm and bed at 7:15-7:30 depending on pm nap.  Having to pick up oldest sister at 3 kinda messes it up or I'd probably wait a little later on the pm nap.  Oh well, at least she is happy during the day and sleeps all night, that helps a lot with having to wake up so early!!!!

She must not be feeling too well, she has a fever today as I said and in the am I put her down at 9:30 and woke her at 10:15, gave her some motrin at lunch cuz she really wasn't into eating and pretty cranky (which is definately not her norm :'( )  Put her down at 1:30 and went right to sleep, but woke at 2:15 up whining off and on for 10 min, back to sleep for 10 whined a little more and back to sleep.  Think I might keep bedtime at 7 tonignt since she's not feeling well. :P

She seems to be feeling better, we have a check-up to check her ears on Monday.  Now her problem the past 3 nights she is whining about 2 hours every night off and on about every 15 min or so and after about 2 hours she cries.  I go in then give her a hug and lay her back down and back to sleep.  I didn't give any motrin though so don't really think it is pain, but not sure ???
On the up side she is sleeping until 6:30, but not so great since I'm up hearing her half the night!  Hopefully we will be back to "normal" soon and I will start trying one nap.

Hugs- if you're not sure it's pain, but she's whimpering/crying, maybe try a dose of Motrin at bedtime one night and see if it helps- hope it's not ears...

I've been giving it to her at bedtime the past 3 nights, but when she starts the wimpering it's usually after only about 3-4 hours into bed time.  At naptime she's been sleeping just fine also without it.  Oh well.  Tonight I decided to put her to bed without it and see what happens, she went to sleep fine, and it's been about an hour so far!

Went to bed at 7:30 w/no problem.  Woke about 10:30 crying so I gave her a hug and said time to go back to sleep, layed her down and back to sleep.  I heard her about 4:30 and 5 but she slept until 6:30. So better than the previous nights, hope it keeps getting better.  ;)

This weekend went well.  Fri and Sat night to bed about 7:15 and slept good all night, Up at 6:00 though.  Last night to be at 7:30 and I heard her at 5:55, but I think she may have been up earlier because after I dropped off her sister at school at 8:45 this morning I took her to the doctor to check to make sure her ears are cleared up (they are ;D) and she fell asleep on the 10 min drive!!!  I decided today I would begin trying one nap for a few days and see how that goes.  She was really good at the dr. and then we went grocery shopping and home.  Had lunch about 11:30 and to bed at noon.  She was really good all morning and went right to sleep.  The problem though is it is now 2:00 and she is up.  I was hoping she would lay back down and go back to sleep, but it doesn't look like it.  I'll leave her up there until she cries though, she is happy for now.  That just doesn't seem like enough sleep though, 10.5 at night and 2 in the day?  I don't know, I guess dd #2 just needed (and still needs) more sleep than average, she slept 11-12 at night and took a 2 or more hour nap too!
