It could be that the 2:30am feed is interferring with our lo's AM bottle.

Have you tried re-settling to see if your lo' will go back to sleep without the bottle?

What size teat are you using?  Do you think a faster flow teat will help your lo take more?

It sounds like he could be ready to drop it.  Have you tried your DH settling him - when I stopped feeding my LO around 4 months in the night- I sat with her and told her I was not going to feed her again and then for 3 nights when she woke my husband settled her and she dropped it without much fuss.  Once you can get them to go a day of so without it - then they take so much more at breakfast and at other feeds during the day to get the calories.

NW won't last forever so don't despair you will get there...

I would still do the DF - I didn't with my DD but do with my DS hes 14 weeks old.  It took my DD about 20 mins to go back to sleep.  She started to have a full feed at breakfast and then was able to do longer stretchs in the day and took more milk so bumped up her calories in the day to get her thru the night

Hi ya I found the DF takes a good few days to kick in - I would keep doing what you are doing for a good few days.  Cheers eliz

Sounds like you are going a great job. As long as there are no medical reasons why your lo needs more frequent feeds then I think it is fine to use water or dilute a feed. Most los won't accept the water though!!

I would do the same for a few days and see what happens. Hopefully your lo will decide it isn't worth waking up for and just increase his day calories to replace. If this doesn't happen you may have to try what Paula suggested and resettle without a bottle. If the night feed is interferring with the breakfast feed then this is fine to do. Sometimes we need to retrain our los to be hungry during the day instead of at night  :) :).

You are NOT starving him  :).

Sounds like you did great.  If your lo was truly hungry, he would not have re-settled.

It may take a bit of time, but he will soon realise, that it is better to take his milk during the day.

Keep us posted.

You're doing great!!!  I agree that a hungry babe wont resettle with just water. Does he take a paci?  When I tried to drop the 2am feeds I always had DH go in and offer the paci.   It took a few times each night but after a week or so they dropped the feed.  If after a few tries he wont settle then he's probably trully hungry.  Maybe the water will do the trick.

Good luck.  Keep us posted.
