Anyone know what I can do with a passion fruit?
« on: May 13, 2009, 19:42:03 pm »
DH bought passion fruit on the weekend after I whined that I needed new food ideas for DS.   He spent a fortune on "Tesco finest perfectly ripe" passion fruit and let me tell you, those things can bypass any lemon on the sour scale.  I almost choked from a lick!

Offered a spoonful of it to DS and he took the first bite fine but the second one -- poor child!  :o

So now I have passion fruit kicking around and no idea what to do with it.  Anyone know what fruit it mixes well with to kick the sourness?

I though about the meringues - Nigella Lawson has a pavlova that she puts passion fruit all over in her gushy lusty way.  With DS only eating yolks we have an abundance of whites around, but don't think I have the right kind of mixer to do a good meringue.  I'm crap at anything that is so sensitive like a pavlova!

May try mango and banana mixed together with some passion fruit on it!

You could use a hand balloon whisk... takes a while!  Or a hand held electric whisk.  I love to just eat them.  If they're all wrinkly they are ripe and ready to eat... the wrinklier the better x

look in the supermarket again - ours sell the ready made pavlovas both bog and small iondividual ones - take one and put whipped up cream on it plus the passionfuite drizzled over and yum!  could put other fruits too like berries and kiwis etc

other ways to use it - add to yogurt or cereal

Take the pulp out and blitz in a blender (seeds and all) and add some sugar to sweeten.  Top up with water.
