Avocado
« on: May 22, 2009, 17:46:11 pm »
To those who love avocado, I am sorry to say, I tried it and it tastes awful.  I try all of my los foods but Avocado just tastes horrible.  Can I mix it with something to make it yummy?

thanks

We cut some up in chunks and add it to salad, you don't notice a bite of it as much when it's mixed with lettuce tomato cucumber and carrot.

I also like a ripe avocado spread on a sandwich in place of a spread like mayo -- chicken and bacon with avocado is really nice. Or, a bagel with tomato, cucumber, avocado and cream cheese, delish!

DS loves the following combinations:  (I just mashed with a fork)

avocado & pear (either very ripe or pureed)
avocado & applesauce (great to keep him regular ;))
avocado & bananas
avocado & yogurt

Another vote for avocado and banana!   Sounds horrible, tastes lush...   The perfect ratio for DS is half an avocado to one banana.    He loves it (and mama likes the leftovers ;) :D).

Or...for the sweeter-toothed....1/2 avocado mashed with 1/2 banana and 2-3 dates.   Tastes a little bit like fudge.

xx

For you...mash with lime and some salt...sometimes with diced tomatoes and onions...eat with tortilla chips....

all those other mixtures for the bub sound yummy!

I mushed up an avocado for dd y'day and she made the most awful face... i tried it and ewwhh it was horrible.  I thought maybe it was because it was very very ripe but i'm glad someone else thinks the same!  I might try the banana mix next time.

I added avocado to many things - it's so good for you!  Banana and avo was his fav!

Later it was his fav finger food (and slightly hysterical to watch him try to pick up ;) )

...its what you do when you get back up.

Thanks! I was going to start her on pears tomorrow so I will combine it with that.  Next, it will be combined with bananas.

Thanks again ;D

I think it's awful too!  Well, not yummy, but DH & DS love it!  I mix it with either pears, banana, or blueberries (or a little of them all!) and he just LOVES it!  :)

My LO absolutely LOVES Avo, chicken and rice. I mash up the avo and add a bit of water till it's ultra creamy, overcook a bit of jasmine rice and add some tender baked chicken and it's juices. Give it all a quick little wizz of the blender and you're ready to go. Also freezes very well.  :)

i LOVE avocado!! Its lovely with chicken and bacon as Mashimaro suggested, esp when spread on a nice bread roll., as long as its ripe its lovely and buttery. Its great when used to make fresh guacamole too!
