Playdough Recipe
« on: June 02, 2009, 04:30:29 am »
Does anyone have a playdough recipe that I could use?  I have been buying it from the shops but am keen to make it.  Googled the recipe and there seems to be a few variations.  Am wanting a good recipe which lasts - I find the stuff from the shops dries out really quickly or is this all playdough?  Thanks...

From an old family cookbook:
2 cups Flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 cups water
1 cup salt
4 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
Food colouring

Mix dry ingredients in a saucepan.  Add water and colouring, and lastly oil.  Heat gently, and turn slowly until it is cooked.  (It may go lumpy at first but it evens out later and leaves the sides of the saucepan when ready.)  Turn out onto a floured board and work lightly with floured hands until it isn't 'sticky' anymore.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge.  Stays workable for weeks.

Thanks, ended up using the recipe on the cream of tartar container as it was the same as the one canwi wrote except used slightly more cream of tartar.  I did use the flour at the end to get rid of stickiness and all was successful!  Here's to happy playdough activities now I have it sussed :)
