Help 20mth old going to bed at night all gone wrong!!!
« on: June 02, 2009, 18:33:04 pm »
Hi

I am Ellie Jane and I have a 20mth old boy. Really need some advice or some sort of explanation of why this is happening. My 20mth old has over past 4/5 night cried when putting him to bed just inconsolable. Had never done this before at all.

Routine has not changed at all in past year or more and not had any issues in past. About 630 do wind down and book, game and some milk then lay him in cot with 2 teddies he said night night so did we and left and that was him. Sometimes he would cry a tiny bit and all we needed to do was sssh him on intercom and he stopped. Now put him down he cries hysterical and shouts either mummy mummy mummy or daddy daddy daddy. We go back in and it is only 20times worse when we leave again . Been trying to sooth him on intercom but makes no difference. Only thing was when we left him just to cry and it goes less and less. I know that is not right but if we went back in it just go worse and worse and started all over again.

Just do not understand why all of a sudden this is happening and why he cries for us when he never has before. Goes down totally fine in pm for his nap and also goes done fine at nursery. Not really waking on night that much but did do it a few nights back and same thing would not settle just wanted us

Please help
no idea how to fix this one at all

Hi

I'm not sure why it is happening with you but my LO has always wanted me if he is OT, teething etc.

If you've never had to do sleep training so far then it might be harder but try to think of ways to help him go to sleep without him getting upset - and as independantly as possible.

I have tried lots of things with Louis and more recently i lie on a mattress next to his bed and pretend to be asleep (including exaggerated snoring  ;D) He does cry for me and do various things to get my attention but eventually gives in and goes to sleep.  It takes a few nights and some NW's before it gets better but he 'learns' to go to sleep on his own again.  I figure it is better than leaving him to scream alone and he never responded well to WI/WO or PU/PD either.

I hope things get better soon
