16 month old shakes his crib - dangerous?
« on: June 14, 2009, 00:38:04 am »
Our 16-month-old son is (thankfully) a great sleeper now because of BW.  He does 10-11 hours at night and still two naps of 1-2 hours each.  Our problem is a little different:

When we put him down to sleep, he likes to violently shake the bars of his crib before he eventually settles on his own.  He uses such force that the legs will come up slightly and bang down and the crib will bang up against the wall.  It makes a terrible racket (and we are in a condo).  But that is not our biggest concern.  We are wondering if he could actually tip the crib over like this!  He is big for his age - 75th percentile.  We have checked the screws to make sure the crib will hold together.  My sister suggested bolting the crib to the wall, but I am sure he would eventually shake the bolt out - he is very strong.  He is definitely not ready for a bed.  Any other moms out there with experiences like this?  Thanks in advance for you suggestions!

my dd went through a phase when she would shake her crib too - enough to move it away from the wall, but I don't think she ever got the feet off the ground.  She stopped after a bit (we did some wi/wo with that).  You could bolt it - I suspect if you got a couple of good bolts, he wouldn't be able to move them - or at least it wouldn't be easy, so he might stop if he wasn't getting the movement he is getting now.  I don't know if anyone else has any better suggestions for you......
