not sure how (or when) to tackle this one ???
« on: June 21, 2009, 10:47:31 am »
My 15 month old LO has had success with WI/ WO in the past.
About 4 - 5 weeks ago he started teething his molars and we had a sleep regression. At the same time we did the 2 - 1 nap transition (successfully) as we initially thought this might be the problem.
Routine is now:
7am wake
8:30am breakfast
10:30am snack
12pm nap (aprox 2 hrs)
2pm Lunch
6pm dinner
8pm bed.

So, since the teething he settles as he always did for nap time (i.e. wind down, pop him on his cot, blows a kiss and I walk out - he goes straight to sleep) but he is not letting us out of the room at night time.
We do his wind down routine pop him in his cot and he settles himself to sleep BUT if we try to leave the room before he is asleep he becomes very upset.
WI/WO is not working any more he just gets increasingly wound up until he will actually start coughing and choking from crying so much.

Also we have a new baby arriving in 9 days and My time in hospital will be the first time he has been apart from me ever. I know we have to wait until after this time to start any new sleep training but how long should we wait?

Any suggestions?

It could be separation anxiety.  Here's a link that might be helpful:  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=80822.0  no reason not to start things now, as he's sure to have issues with you gone and the new baby coming.

Hello, I was thinking your pm a time may be a tad long & he may be just a little ot?  Your am is 5 hrs & your pm is 6 hrs long, so that may be the difference in why he is fighting bedtime & not nap time.  I would try to either move his nap 30 min later or move his bedtime a little earlier.  Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the usual a time is 5-5.5 hrs.  It could be the teething or SA too.  My lo is teething right now, she goes down fine for her nap, but is fighting bedtime too.  GL w/ the new baby!
