10 month old with no teeth and won't eat lumps
« on: June 26, 2009, 13:00:09 pm »
Hi

My lo has no teeth yet and will not eat lumps of veggies etc. She will eat pasta which she just swallows.  She sucks toast to death and does put cubes in her mouth and plays with them in her mouth but will not chew with her gums or swallow them.  Should I be worried?  Most of her friends the same age are eating lumps.  What can I do?

Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much - they all get there in the end.  I have a friend whose ds was well over 1 before he would eat lumps - and if he did find a lump in his smooth food then he would choke, throw up and refuse to eat for the rest of the day!  He now happily eats whatever is given to him.

Just keep offering her lumpy food to make sure that she doesn't create an aversion to it and try not to stress.

My daughter got teeth very late too.  They do catch up in the end.  I just had to get creative once she was over a year old and only had 4 teeth at 15 months.

I made a soup with really small noodles, spinach and really really mushy carrots she loved so much she still eats it now as a 3 yr old.  That was the only nonbaby food she ate for a long time.

They do all catch up in the end, no worries.
