10.5 month old and 30 minute naps
« on: July 10, 2009, 08:09:08 am »
Hi, my 10.5 month old baby boy has always had a really hard time with his daytime naps.  It's been fairly easy putting him to sleep but he'll only sleep for 30-40 minutes.  The last 6 weeks was really good strangely because he somehow managed on his own to start taking longer afternoon and am naps of at least an hour. But the last 2 weeks he's back to taking 30-40 minute naps.  I've tried w2s but when i go in to wake him up slightly he ends up waking up  completely so i'm not sure if I'm doing it right.  If he wakes up I try to hold him for a minute and then lay him back down but once he sees me it's all over.
He's been sleeping really well at night, generally will sleep through (once every couple of days he may wake up at around 11 but if i hold him for a minute and lay him down he'll go back to sleep)
Right now his schedule is:
5am - 6 am - wake up for milk but goes right back to sleep
7-7:30 am - wake up completely
8:30am - breakfast
10 am - 10:30 - nap
10:30 am - milk with small snack
12:30 - 1 pm - lunch
1:30 - 2 pm - nap
4 pm - milk with snack
6 pm - dinner
7:30 milk
8 - 8:30 - sleep till about 6 am
sometimes he won't want to take his am nap till much later. If it's already 11 am then i try to push it till 12 and hope that he'll just take a long pm nap but then i think he gets OT.  But even with both am and pm nap because they're so short he's completely wanting to sleep again by 6 pm.  So i know that i'm needing to really adjust his schedule. Also, his milk in the day is now in a sippy cup so he doesn't have it in one go but will keep sipping during his A time..not sure if that makes a difference.
I really am getting quite desperate now because i feel like no matter what i try to do he just won't sleep longer and is constantly cranky and OT.
Anyone who can help...THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Check out this link i think it might be useful to you http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95670.0
In my opinion i would keep the AM nap where it is and try a slightly shorter awake time before the PM nap with only a 30min nap.

Thanks for the link.  The awake time right now between his am and pm nap is about 3-4 hours. Do you think i should make this shorter? If i do this then should I put a 3rd nap in because he'll be exhausted by 8 pm then?

Hi

my Lo is 10 months old and we have just moved to one nap.  At the moment this is at 12 noon.  This seems to be working.  I am sure he would happily go to sleep anytime after 11.15 am, but he seems ok to last until 12, having his lunch just before.  This has resulted in him having a lovely 2 hours lunchtime nap (most days).  This sets him up for an active afternoon and no more naps before bed - seems to be working for us :o)
