Falling asleep issues again
« on: July 10, 2009, 12:04:20 pm »
We are still having issues with dd taking an hour to fall asleep at night.   I don't know what the deal is - if anything. Can you ladies look at our schedule and see if you can suggest anything?

7:00a wake
1:00-2:30/3:00 nap
7:30/7:45p in bed
8:45ish asleep

Does she just not need as much sleep anymore? She's 27 months now. I've tried cutting her nap to 1.5 hours and we still get the same results. Sometimes she naps 12:30-2:30 and we still have issues with falling asleep at night. I just don't get it! I am stressing over it, but not sure if I should?!? Maybe she isn't tired 4.5 hours or so after nap, but then I worry that she's only sleeping 10 hours at night, when (I think) she should be doing about 11.

I'm really not an expert on these things, as we are having issues with our 2.5 year old (possibly getting better, though), but the thing that really jumps out at me from your routine is that there is 6 hours between wake up and nap, and 4.5 from nap to bed.  I would be inclined to move the morning nap earlier so that the day is more equal - say 12.30-2, giving 5.5 am and 5.5 pm.

Having spent ages tweaking our routine (from 7.15 wake up, 12.30-2.30/45 nap, 6.45 bed) to find the magic formula, we have ended up with: 6.45 wake, 12.30-2.15 nap, 7.15 bed (asleep by 7.45) - this has worked for most of the week, so I am hoping that this might be a routine that we can go with for a while.

Not sure if any of this helps?
Cx

Thanks Cx! For months and months, her nap time was 12 and it was perfect. Then she slowly started moving to 12:30, especially on days she slept till 7:15-7:30. She would always fall asleep within 10 minutes for nap. The past few weeks, I've put her in bed at about 12:20, figuring by 12:30 she'd be asleep, but most days she's not falling asleep till close to 1:00! I just figured that she was moving her nap time up. Maybe she's ot though?? I'm going to watch it a bit more closely for the next few days and see if we can get back to the 12:30 naptime. If I remember correctly, I think that might have resulted in a little earlier falling asleep/bedtime.

Thanks! And anyone else, please feel free to chime in! :)

We definitely went through OT not falling asleep here while we worked things out, both for nap time and bed time.  I was moving dd's nap back to 1 and cutting it short and all sorts, but actually what she needed was earlier rather than later.

So far, not so good today. :( DD was up, probably around 6:45 this morning. Put her in bed for nap at 12:15, hoping for a 12:30 asleep time. Nope. She just fell asleep now at 1:30pm. WOW! That's the longest she's taken to fall asleep for nap. Totally confusing me! I think I'll only let her sleep till 3 and even then, we'll still have issues with not going to bed till 8:30 or so. Argh!!

I decided that I was going to wake dd at 6.30 for a bit to get her back into the habit of going down for her lunchtime nap well - would you be willing to do that?  I'm not sure if it helped, but after a few days I extended her sleep to 6.45 and she still went down for her lunchtime nap at the same time.  Just trying to throw out some ideas to see if anything can help you.
