End of the day crunch with catnap
« on: July 12, 2009, 18:11:34 pm »
Hi there,
My DS is 4.5mos and I think I need to tweak our routine but not sure how best to do it.  DS takes 2 hour nap in AM and PM and up until now we've also done a catnap out in the pram.  However, DS is starting to stay awake longer periods now and so he isn't interested in taking a catnap before 5:45/6.  He usually only sleeps for about 30mins... but this is causing his bedtime to keep getting later and later.  Tonight, he actually refused to catnap all together so we put him to bed early... but it was still too much A time and now he is OT at bedtime.  How can I solve this end of day crunch? This is how today went...

Wake Up 6:25
E - 7
A
S  - 8:45 - 10:45 Sleep

E - 11
A
S - 1:15-3:15

E - 3:30

Straight into bedtime routine after missed catnap
E - 6:30
S - 7:10

(Not sure how tonight/tomorrow AM will go given he was OT at bedtime)

4.5months is a little early to drop that cat nap. I feel your pain as my DD1 hated taking it and it was a battle everyday to take it i couldn't wait for the day when she dropped it. Could you try putting him is a swing/bouncer or sling instead for that catnap. Have you tried offering the catnap a little earlier like 4.30/5pm?
