Don't know what to do!!!
« on: July 14, 2009, 08:59:46 am »
Hi,
I'm new to this site. I've just ordered Tracy Hogg's book but thought I'd post to see if anyone could help. My little boy is about to turn 1. He used to be fantastic in the nights. He started sleeping through at 12 weeks and he used to settle himself, but about 3 months ago, he started waking frequently in the night screaming. We made the mistake of taking him in with us. Now he won't settle himself at all. He will only go to sleep if we push him back and forth in his pram. Once he's sleeping we put him up in the cot, where he will sleep for 3 hours maximum. He then wakes screaming. He stands up in the cot and shakes the bars. I've tried everything to get him settled again but he will not stay in the cot. He'd scream all night I'm sure. Anyway, he comes in with us but he doesn't sleep soundly. He tosses and turns, crawls around the bed, etc. He's semi sleeping when he's doing this. In the end I have to give him a bottle and sometimes then he won't sleep. I really don't know what to do and I'm desperate for some sleep. Can anyone help???Thought I'd better mention that he's teething badly. Leanne.

welcome to BW!  It sounds like he now needs you to go to sleep (add that to teething and you've got a mess!).  Are you giving him anything for the teething pain?  I would suggest doing at at least 30 min before sleep times - nap and bedtime.  Can you post his daily routine - especially in terms of waking/napping/bedtime?  You will probably need to use a bit of gradual withdrawal to help him re-learn how to sleep on his own in the crib (that will mean weaning off the pram rocking and out of sleeping with you).  Here's a link about gradual withdrawal that explains it a bit more:  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=80750.0
