Some of you may remember my last thread.

Since then Harvey, whos ow 4, has had a skin prick test and was tested for nut allergies which were all negative.  Ive told them its kidney beans he's allergic too but they cant test for that  ??? We've had a few incidents here the last few weeks and am now feeling abit anxious.

Last night Finn spilt baked beans on the leather sofa, Matt wiped it up with some kitchen roll and carried on eating his dinner and said he'd give it a good clean once he'd finished.  Didnt think much of it as what are the chances of Harvey going near it?? Well... he did, he did his usual trick of rolling around the sofa trying to do head stands ::) ::) Well a few minutes later he was itching his shoulder and started to cry, his shoulder was a mess of red blotches and his nose had started to run and his eyes were red and watery and were driving him crazy!! I got the piriton out and he proceeded to sneeze about 20 times in a row!!! :o :o

Last week he must have touched Finn's high chair tray while Finn was playing (I mean eating :P) beans, we had a similar reaction to last night but he'd obviously touched his face as he had huge red blotches on one side of his face, his neck was also really itchy and was more rash like than blotchy.

He also cries for a very long time when this happens (Which isnt unusual!! ::)) so not sure what else is going on for him.

Im starting to worry what would actually happen if he accidentally ate one of these beans?!

Where do I go from here if they dont test for beans??

Thanks in advance :-* :-*

Did he explain why it cannot be tested?  I know when I saw the allergist for testing they advised me if it was in regards to a fruit or vegetable to bring a fresh sample for the skin pricking test.  I would assume for the blood test they could do it without a fresh sample.  Was it just for the skin test?  I could see if they didn't have a bean sample they couldn't test for it.  Did they do a blood test at all?  From what I searched on the internet they can test for anything and everything.

Can you call the Dr back and ask to get him tested for it, or perhaps go to a different allergist if he says he can't/won't do it, though not sure why they cannot.  It sounds serious enough to get tested for.  Poor thing!

Aren't beans all classed as "legumes"? When Sophie went for her skin prick test a while back they asked if she tolerated legumes so they wouldn't have to test for it.
Just a thought..
big hugs, it must be scary for you all xxxxx

Hmmm... I wondered the same... Maybe what she was saying the was she didnt have any?! ??? We were supposed to have a follow up appointment which hasnt come through yet, the skin prick test was done over 6 weeks ago ::) So maybe ill ask then... Id definitely be up for bringing a sample if they asked...  They didnt mention legumes at all but yes, beans are legumes.

They didnt do a blood test, it was mentioned but all the things they listed they could test for with a blood test he'd eaten with no effects. Egg, dairy etc

Yeah, I'd definitely call them or talk to them prior to your follow-up appt and explain, intensely, your concern with the beans/legumes and if there is a way he can be tested for it.  This way if they say there is you can be ready for it when the follow-up appt comes around.  Let us know what happens!  I hope you get some answers soon.
