10 week old was STTN now waking at 3am!
« on: August 30, 2009, 21:43:02 pm »
Okay, so my DD is now 10 weeks old.  Since she was about 4 or 5 weeks old she was going a good 5 - 6 hrs during the night, usually her DF was between 10:30 - 11:30pm depending when her last feed was.  Last weekend DH and I went away and she was with his parents for the night.  Well wouldn't you know she slept from 11pm until 7am!  We thought, wow this is great she's now STTN.  The next two nights at home with us were great too, 8 hrs one night, 7  hrs the next.  Well, then on the 3rd night it all went to hell in a handbasket!  She all of a sudden started waking at 3am.  She rarely ever woke that early, usually it was 4 or 5am.  I just chalked it up to one of those rare nights.  Well all of a sudden she's been waking up every 3 hrs during the night.  She is also not as interested in taking as much formula during her daytime feeds.  She was taking up to 4 oz about every 2.5 or 3 hrs during the day, now she will take maybe 2 oz one feed, maybe a little more other feeds.  I am so confused.  It's not like I'm not trying to feed her during the day!  Could this be a growth spurt?  I don't have a set EASY schedule as we are working on some reflux issues and she doesn't wake at the same time every day, her naps tend to be all over the place right now.  I've recently switched her formula to a thickened one, but of course the calorie content is the same.  She's switched formulas before no problem, it never affected her sleep, so not sure if this is the cause?  I will give you a sample day for us, but it varies, and today she was at my parents so I have no idea what her times were:

Eg. Wake at 6am
E - 6am
S - 6:30
E - 9:30
A - 9:45 - 10:45/11am
S - 11am - 12pm
E - 12pm
A - 12:15 - 1:00/1:15
S - 1:15 - 3:15/3:30
E - 3:30
A - 3:45 - 4:45/5pm
S - (this is where it starts to fall apart every night, she's extremely fussy, so doesn't really sleep long if at all)
       5 - 5:30
A - 5:30 - 6
E - 6pm
A - usually awake until bathtime which is 7:45pm
E - 8pm (she usually won't want to eat before bathtime)
S - 8:30
DF - 11:30
E - 3am
E - 6am

Like I said, she was going from an approximate 11pm DF until 4 or 5am, now she isn't.  I don't know, please help!  As I said, this is only one example of many different days.  I usually try to go with EASY based on when she wakes.  Could be 8:30am one day, and as late as 10am the next.  Not sure why her times are different either.  Should I wake her at a specific time each day and try to start from there every day thereon?  Her naps tend to be all over the place too.  The above example is a good day.  But lately she doesn't want to sleep longer than the 45 min mark which is very frustrating. I try to help her go back to sleep, but that seems to wake her more, so not sure what to do there either.  Thanks in advance for any advice!

I try so hard to get her to catnap in the evening, and it just doesn't work.  I could fight the whole time, or keep her awake, which is the same to me, lol.  She usually doesn't have a problem getting to sleep at bedtime though, so thats a plus.  I was thinking and dreading I'd have to start a set wake time for her, ugh.  I was really enjoying the sleep ins!  But I guess if that is what it takes that is what I will have to do.  She actually was good last night and went until 5:30, although for some reason, she woke an hour after her DF, so had to get her back to sleep as I knew there was no way she was hungry.  We'll see how tonight goes.  And this could all change tomorrow too, as she is getting her 2 mo shots in the morning.  Hopefully it doesn't rattle her too bad.  She is what I'd call Textbook, with definite Touchy and Grumpy aspects too, so I'm a little afraid of what to expect from the vaccines! Hopefully tonight goes better, and if everything with her shots goes good then I will start immediately on a set wake up time.  Thanks for your help!

The first was 45 mins, the second was 30 mins.  The second one gave us time to eat anyways, then we played with her for about 15 mins after she woke, and gave her a bath then bottle then to bed at 8:30.  Hubby said she wouldn't take her DF at 11pm (sometimes I think he doesn't try hard enough and gives up too easily, grrr).  So I gave her a very late DF at around 1:30 when I woke up.  I think she was about to wake up anyways because her eyes opened as soon as I sat down with her.  Anyways, she ended up sleeping until 6:30!  So hopefully tonight will be more on schedule, though she had her shots today, so who knows how the whole day will pan out!
