Need advice on the dreamfeed...
« on: September 04, 2009, 15:23:47 pm »
Hi ladies

I have implemented EASY with my baby boy from birth and it has been areal success... with the exception of the dreamfeed.

I have tried, over and over again to get my 9-week-old to take the dreamfeed - and it ALWAYS results in him vomiting up the milk as soon as I go to put him down or burp him. He is mixed fed- but I always dreamfeed with the bottle. Formula or expressed breastmilk, it makes no difference.

It is not violent vomiting, he just gently regurgitates all of it in one go. He doesn't even wake (except when I strip him off to change his wet clothes)

Without the DF, he goes to sleep at around 7.30pm and will last until somewhere around 12 midnight and 2am. If we get the dreamfeed right I think we might see him making it to 6am. At present, he'll feed around 12pm, then 4am, and we may even get an early waking into the bargain if he's sleepy at the 4am feed and doesn't take much.

I guess my question is - should I try waking him for a 10.30pm feed...? Or just accept that the DF is not going to happen and resign myself to a much longer spell of night wakings.

Thanks in advance

Hi Chick, Welcome to the Baby Whisperer Website  ;D

The DF does not work for every lo.

How many oz are you offering at the DF?  Have you tried offering a smaller amount?  What flow is the teat on the bottle, do you think he may be drinking it too quickly?

Have you thought about trying cluster feeding in the early evening instead of the DF to see if that helps him tank up a bit more?

We never did the DF with our DD, and would just feed her when she woke in the night.  This worked for us and suited us.
