varying types of sippy cups

My LO is 14 months and transitioned himself off of bottles and onto sippy cups.  He was taking 1 of his bottle feeds via sippy and chewed all of the nipples off of his bottles, so I just gave him his sippy cups instead and he took them.  But I had to buy more, because he was also chewing the tops off of those.  This time I bought cups for 12 months +, rather than the starter ones and he won't take them.  He throws it at me the second I give it to him.  The only difference I can tell is that he actually has to suck a little more, rather than the liquid just flowing into his mouth.  Any tips for getting him to drink out of them?

Not sure if the sippys you were using had the soft spouts and if the new ones have the harder spout....that may be why he doesn't take to them. Just wanted to say that DD was particular for awhile. Only did straw cups...then finally learned to tilt the other type, now she'll take whatever she is offered. So from 10-12 months we just kept offering and she got better and better and less picky over time. But she still has teeth marks in all of hers!

Jacob can only use a free flow hard spout cup or a normal straw in a cup.

Can you remove the valve from the cups to make them freeflow until he gets used to them and then put them back in?

Hmmm, I didn't think to take out the valve part.  I can do that.  I think the major aspect that he doesn't like is that it isn't a soft spout.  I purposely bought cups with harder ones, so that he couldn't chew it off.  But now he won't touch them.  Although, tonight he did put one to his mouth and took a sip.  Maybe that is the beginning of something.
