How many bottles at 1 years?
« on: September 20, 2009, 18:01:20 pm »
My lo is 1 this week and he is currently on 3 bottles. Bottle times are:

6.30am, 2pm & 6.30pm.

Just wondering do I keep him on 3? Change it? He LOVES his milk!!!

We were on three 6-8 oz bottles a day, but when we went to one nap we went back to 4 - 6 oz cups a day. Now I just cut her back to 4 - 4oz cups because if I didn't she would keep having 24oz a day and 3 full meals plus 2 snacks! Does he still eat lots of solids even with the milk intake? How much does he have in each bottle?

both dd and ds were on 2 milk feeds by 1 year - dd had hers from a cup by 15 months and ds had his from a cup from 10 1/2 months.

Hi,
They are all roughly 6-7 oz depending on what he has had through the day. Nursery have started giving him his 2pm one in a cup which he just spits out for some reason! Maybe he needs a little practise as they only started it on Thursday! He still eats his solids and has a pretty good appetite.

If it was me I would leave it for now, seeing as how he's eating well otherwise. I honestly can't even remember when I switched Masyn to 2 cups a day, maybe around 13 months when we went to whole milk.

Just out of interest, when did you stop the bedtime bottle and switch to a cup?

Actually, we were through with bottles altogether by 6 months, with both girls. My kids are a bit weird, in that even the fastest flow nipple was not enough so I switched to Sippy cups. Spencer has had her last milk at supper in a sippy cup for about 2 months, but without a valve so it is free flowing, otherwise we use a valve so they are no-spill when she's cruising around. At bedtime to replace the milk I give them both a sipper of water.

oh and Happy Birthday to your little man!!!  ;D

My ds is 14 mths and still on 3 bottles a day. Two are formula and one is rice milk, which he loves but hasn't got much fat in it - so probably not really filling. Still eats lots too. Haven't changed to cup yet as haven't even thought about it i guess. He drinks a lot of water too from a sippy.
If he loves it and is still eating a good amount of solids, i would leave it for now. Im sure when he is ready he will start showing signs...

I know, time sure does fly!  I suppose the mixed reports are cause every baby really is different, I think the main thing with bottles (or any sippy cup really) is that they aren't constantly carrying it around or have it in bed at night because it can lead to tooth decay. Other than that I wouldn't really worry too much about when you start to use a cup.

Thanks Tansy. Why is he on rice milk? How did he go with cow's milk? I'm just about to give it a go.

I agree Heidi, don't want him trailing round with bottle in his school uniform!

 ;D

We are still on formula, did trial milk for about a week and she got completely constipated, so we decided to go back to soy formula and try again in a few months. She has a bit of dairy every day, but having milk all the time seemed to put her over the edge. I thought about using soy millk, but none of them have the fat content that whole milk does, which is what we eventually plan to get her on.
